Daniel is DBT’s Deputy Director for Financial and Professional Services based at the British Embassy Beijing. He has broad experience across the financial industry, having worked in the public and private sectors in both the UK and China. He was previously the UK Foreign Office’s Head of Financial Policy and Programmes in China, and before joining government was the Deputy Director of the International Department at Tsinghua Holdings Capital, a leading Chinese private equity firm. Daniel has previously spent periods working in fixed income for an investment bank; and he started his career in capital markets advisory for reinsurance and catastrophe bond deal issuances at RMS. Daniel was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the 2021 New Year Honours List, in recognition of services to British foreign policy.

A native Londoner, Daniel is fluent in Mandarin and has lived in Beijing for almost a decade. He holds a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London where he was President of the Imperial Aeronautics Society, and a Global MBA from Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, where he was a Chinese Government Scholar and a Tsinghua University Scholar as well as MBA Class Vice-President. Daniel was twice winner of the MBA Negotiation Challenge at HKUST, he was invited to the 2016 St. Gallen Symposium in Switzerland for his paper “Alternatives to Economic Growth”, and he has appeared as an expert in international political economy on the Phoenix TV show Tiger Talk.
