Event Details

According to the Photonics Leadership Group (PLG), UK photonics industry grew to a £14.5bn in 2020, employing 76,700 people - twice the number of people employed in UK pharmaceutical production and is larger than fintech or space industries.

With a total gross value added to the economy of £6.5 billion and £85,000 per employee, photonics is now the 5th most productive manufacturing sector in the UK. PLG forecasts UK photonics industry will grow to over a £16bn by 2022, fuelled by continuing adaptation and increasing demand across applications from food, health, communications, and manufacturing sectors.

DIT will host an exclusive UK-themed roadshow on 18 Sept during CIOE 2021 (The 23rd China International Optoelectronic Exposition), which aims to build a platform for UK photonics sector companies to interact with potential Chinese customers, distributors or partners, and discuss how photonics innovation enables a sustainable future.

Our core purpose is to support our customers to address some of the world's most pressing challenges, enabling a greener economy, increased connectivity, improved health, and leaps in scientific understanding. We are proud to be recognised as the leaders in what we do and for the difference we make in the world.

For over 100 years, Prior Scientific has been manufacturing precision optical and electromechanical equipment and instrumentation. Prior is a leader in the development of precision motion, automation, and optical systems, sub-systems, and components. Key product lines include microscope automation equipment including high precision motorized microscope stages, automated slide and well plate loaders, Piezo nanopositioning systems, motorized filter wheels, high-speed shutters, laser autofocus systems, custom, and OEM electromechanical and optical systems.

Chromacity design and manufacture a new generation of affordable ultrafast lasers, which drive advances in life science imaging, spectroscopy and quantum applications for academic and industrial partners. Our systems range from fixed wavelength femtosecond lasers to tunable picosecond optical parametric oscillators (OPO), which span the near to mid-IR spectral region. Headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, Chromacity is a spin out company from Heriot-Watt University featured by a team of over 70 years' combined expertise in lasers and photonics.

Established in 2002, Helia Photonics Ltd is a world leader in optical thin films for photonic devices, providing services to some of the most exciting projects across the globe, from particle accelerators to satellites, medical devices to forensic crime labs. Based in the UK, we specialise in the production of thin film coatings on laser facets, free space optics, fibre ends and semiconductor devices.

We currently operate 17 deposition systems (including ion & plasma assisted e-beam, DC & RF sputtering, ion beam sputtering & thermal deposition) giving us the ability to utilise well over one hundred different materials.

In addition to thin film optical coatings, we also provide semiconductor cleaving services, sawing, dicing and precision wafer thinning/polishing services, photolithography and laser bar testing (electro-optical analysis). We are proud to be at the forefront of industrial and academic photonics research and development.

We operate right across the globe with customers in every continent, and we are always looking to expand our operation into new regions and sectors. We are delighted to be working closely with our partner organisation, Brilliant Optics and are looking forward to exploring exciting opportunities in the Far East region.

Fotech, a bp Launchpad company, is a trusted partner to its customers in over 25 countries in the smart cities, infrastructure, security and pipeline sectors. Fotech combines photonics and technical expertise to deliver world-class, fibre-enabled solutions and deep insights that empower customers to make data-driven decisions. Founded in 2008, Fotech is focused on innovation and excellence as it seeks every day to push boundaries.

Bluebox Optics Ltd, which formed in March 2017, is a Photonics/Electronics company specializing in the innovative design and manufacture of new, highly efficient photonics devices (Laser and High Brightness Light Emitting Diodes) for the life science sector, especially Fluorescence Microscopy. Bluebox has an experienced management/ technical team that has invented, developed, patented and taken many innovative products through to production within the Photonics/Electronics sector. Bluebox Optics currently manufactures a device for the Fluorescence Microscopy market please see our website. This device is different to other such devices on the market in that it utilises LED modules. Therefore the customer does not need to buy all 7 LED Modules upon initial purchase.
