It is estimated that there are over 7,000 rare diseases, with new conditions continually being identified as research advances. Rare diseases can be both life-limiting and life-threatening, and disproportionately affect children. It is crucial for international countries to work hand in hand for sharing, learning and collaboration to jointly meet rare disease challenges in research, access to medicine and patient care.
On 29th February, International Rare Disease Day, the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Chinese Organization for Rare Disorders (CORD) will co-host the "Rare Disease Symposium - Working Together for the Future". The symposium aims to bring together policy makers, clinicians, researchers and innovative companies to achieve international exchanges between China and the UK on issues ranging from national policies to technological innovations, screening and diagnostics to coordinated care, and research trends to clinical excellence. The event will also build a platform for long-term action and international cooperation in education and training, scientific research, clinical services and technological innovation, and promote and strengthen mutual understanding and in-depth cooperation between China and the UK in the field of rare diseases.
